Working with Wire > Backward Loop Cast On
This cast-on is among the easiest and the one most often taught to children.
It does not create the neatest edge when knitting with yarn, but it is a very
convenient cast-on when
knitting with wire.
To work the Backward Loop Cast-on:
 |
Step 1: Make a slip knot on your right needle
if working with yarn. If working with wire (shown), you may find it
easier to twist a loop of appropriate size. Whether using slip knot or
twisted loop, this first loop will count as your first stitch. |
 |
Step 2:
Loop the working wire... |
 |
Step 3: ...and
place it on the needle backward so that the working end of the wire lays
from back to front. |
 |
Step 4: Continue in this way until the desired number of
stitches have been cast on. |
