Hiawatha Poncho Crochet Pattern

SDS-009

Crochet Pattern - Not a Finished Garment

This crocheted poncho is rustic, warm and sexy - a unique combination that will have you looking great and feeling cozy as the weather begins to chill. The poncho looks great as a casual statement over a simple sweater with boot-cut jeans, yet would also work with a suede skirt and knee-high boots for a dressier look. It works up fast using a heavy worsted yarn and is crocheted in the round from the top down, in order to provide optimum fit and almost zero finishing. Employed is an interesting and simple technique for weaving separate strands of yarn into the fabric while the poncho is being worked. So go ahead! Grab yourself some yarn, a hook and settle down by the fire with a friend or with a few of your favorite movies. You’ll not only have fun, but you will quickly end up with a poncho that expresses that eternal free spirit within.

I purchased the Hiawatha poncho pattern and created it in a mystery yarn that I had in my collection, it is a cream and brown slub yarn and it turned out soooo beautiful! I love it! My sister tried to guilt me into giving it to her since I didn't give her a birthday gift yet, but I couldn't give it up. I worked on it over a long weekend (Hurricane Ivan) and did some of the work by candlelight as we lost power for about 2 days. It was relatively easy and worked up very quickly. I have had so many compliments from strangers on it also, so thanks for such a favulous pattern! Your patterns are very easy to navigate through, not frustrating at all, so keep creating them, they are great! - Donna R

I made this poncho as a gift to myself! It was a quick pattern, simple to read and the weaving was something I'd never done before. I used a lemongrass green wool, a pink yarn, some browns and a navy wool. It's very colorful and I've had many compliments. Thank you for such a great pattern. It really is beautiful.

This is a great pattern that works up fairly easily. I've made two so far, the first for myself out of Lion Brand Homespun that won first place in our County Fair. I get compliments all the time on it. The second I made as a gift for my pastors daughter and she loved it. Thanks for a great pattern and keep them coming! Tammy M.
